University of Buckingham
The University of Buckingham is Britain's only independent university and consequently is not state-funded and is not facing budget cuts this Autumn. In fact, student numbers and places are growing. As Buckingham does not receive direct subsidy from the Government, the university can focus on the student rather than worrying about regulatory interference.
The university is in the heart of south-east England, a thriving market town 50 miles from London and 20 miles from Oxford. Easy access by road and rail and proximity to London’s airports support our strong national and international connections. Buckingham's three campuses are just a 10-minute walk from each other.
Global community
Buckingham is truly a global community with students of all cultures and ages. Over 80 countries are represented here, although our largest group still comes from the UK. Our international atmosphere is perfect for anyone who has enjoyed discovering different cultures, perhaps during a gap year. Our dedicated AlumNet website ensures that everyone stays in touch with each other and with Buckingham long after they leave.
How is Buckingham Rated
Buckingham is the top UK university for student satisfaction for the fourth year in a row from 2009 to 2009. Buckingham also first appeared in the league tables in 2009 and shot to the 48th position out of 122 higher education institutes as recorded in the Sunday Times University Guide 2010.
A Degree in Only 2 Years
Buckingham's honours degrees only take two years to complete so you can take a year out and still graduate with your peers. Students gain their degrees in just two years because they work intensively and efficiently with very short vacations. There's no cutting of corners and no 'distance learning'. You can start your degree in September, January or July. Find out how we fit everything in.
Student:Academic Staff Ratio
Buckingham's student to staff ratio puts us among the top UK universities. We have one member of staff for every 7.8 students, whereas the UK university average is one member of staff to every 17.6 students. This ensures you get more personal attention and make faster progress - high teaching quality and a genuinely friendly atmosphere go hand in hand.
Leading Academic Staff and Small Group Teaching
At Buckingham, all academics teach their subject through lectures and tutorials and they are available to speak individually to students on a regular basis. Our largest lecture hall accommodates 186 students and tutorials are in small groups of about 6 students.
