Overview

Queen Mary is one of the four largest multi-faculty colleges of the University of London. Its strong performance in quality assessments has led to Queen Mary being internationally recognised as a leading teaching and research institution. Queen Mary offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with extensive research opportunities. The College also incorporates the world-famous Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, a major centre for medical and dental teaching and research. International students from more than 100 countries each year add to the diversity of the College.

Location

Queen Mary is the only college in the University of London to have an integrated teaching, research and residential campus in central London. The Mile End campus is located between the two financial areas of London (known as 'the City') and the Docklands development. Getting to other parts of London is easy, with two underground stations within a five-minute walk. The college has two other sites in central London for medical and dental students: Whitechapel and West Smithfield.

Academic strengths

Queen Mary is a leading research university, recently ranked in the top 20 UK universities (The Worlds Top 200 Universities 2005) and in the top 10 for graduating starting salaries (The Sunday Times University Guide 2006). Particular strengths are medicine and dentistry, law, electronic engineering, computer science and economics. Over 90% of Queen Mary's departments scored 4 or above in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.

The college has several leading international research units such as the Centre for Commercial Law Studies and the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials. The College also offers four foundation courses preparing students for undergraduate and postgraduate entry.

Facilities

The College has invested heavily in new and existing resources, boasting excellent academic, housing and social facilities on campus. Students have access to the College's modern library and to the collections of the University of London library.

All students have free e-mail and internet access, and the student-to-computer ratio is one of the highest in Britain. Workstations can be found throughout the departments of the College. The Advice and Counselling Service and on campus health centre offer a range of advice and support services to all students. There is a comprehensive orientation programme for international students.
